Student events are one of the pinnacles of a music career at UofL. We invite the community at large to join us as they perform both well-known and brand new pieces.
I needed to learn to connect the dots between hearing, improvising, reading and writing, and am still exploring that challenge. Knowing that my music has reached someone and offered them a positive emotional journey is a wonderful reward.
Being able to listen to a whole ensemble, but pick out the music coming from each one, it felt like I had superpowers. Once you can do that, you can almost reverse engineer it, mentally hear what you want to sound like and make that happen.
